(ABC 6 News) — The Med City Freeze players knew they were capable of playing better after several frustrating losses at home.
In the first half, the offense got off to a slow start and they trailed the Albert Lea Grizzlies by a familiar score of 14-6.
In the second half, the offense began to click when Henry Ivy rushed for a touchdown and Andre Chase converted the two-point conversion to tie the game.
The Freeze then took a 20-14 lead when Austin Gray caught a pass up the middle and took off for a 40+ yard touchdown. The score stayed the same until under a minute in the fourth quarter.
On fourth down, the Freeze went for a punt to pin the Grizzlies deep in their own territory but Albert Lea’s Tony Kaune blocked the punt, to give the Grizzlies the ball at the three-yard line.
Grizzlies quarterback Trevon Wilkenson would score the game-tying touchdown on a quarterback draw. The Grizzlies missed the extra point, and the game went into overtime.
After trading touchdowns with no conversions in the first overtime, the two teams nearly did the same in the second overtime. After the Freeze tied the game at 32 in the second overtime, Andre Chase took the snap and rumbled his way across the goal line for the game-winning 2-point conversion.
The Freeze sits at 3-4 on the season and will be off the next two weeks with byes, before their regular-season finale on the road against the Midwest Rampage on July 9th.
