Groundbreaking held for new affordable housing project in Rochester

(ABC 6 News) – First Homes held a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday afternoon to mark the beginning of their newest affordable housing project.

The project will include 6 new units of affordable housing located on 9th Ave. in Rochester.

The new location will provide its tenants with easy access to public transportation as well as newly developed businesses in the downtown area, and will help address the critical affordable housing shortage in the city.

"We know there is a need for six-thousand new homes and home ownership opportunities in our community, we are here to celebrate those homes. That might seem small but really the key here is that all these partners coming together are committed to this work for these six homes, and really moving the needle to support affordable housing in our community," said President of First Homes Jennifer Woodford.

First Homes is hoping the housing will be complete and ready for new tenants in the summer of 2023.
