20-year-old arrested for DWI, resisting arrest
(ABC 6 News) – A 20-year-old Rochester man was arrested for driving while intoxicated on a learner’s permit.
Deputies responded to a crash in the 6500 block of Country Club Road NW in Kalmar Township.
A witness reported that a vehicle had gone off the roadway, but the driver had left the scene on foot.
Using the vehicle’s registration, deputies went to Omar Elehamer’s home and observed signs of impairment in speaking to the young man.
Elehamer declined to perform field sobriety tests, but over the course of the interview, deputies developed probable cause for arrest and took him into custody — which he resisted.
A breath test registered a result of 0.175, more than twice the legal limit.
Elhamer faces charges of misdemeanor 4th degree driving while intoxicated, gross misdemeanor refusal to test, and misdemeanor obstruction of the legal process.
