(ABC 6 News) – Many young entrepreneurs’ business skills were put to the test Saturday right in their own driveways.
Rochester celebrated “Lemonade Day” and kids across the city worked tirelessly throughout the day making and running their own lemonade stands with family and friends.
Lemonade Day is a national program designed to teach kids about finances, teamwork and business skills. Many agree that this is a great opportunity for kids to appreciate hard work and earning their own money.
“It’s an early start of somebody getting out there and understanding the value of spending, receiving and finding that equal distance,” Rochester Police Department, Officer Marsolek, said.
One of the stands, the “Lemonade Sisters”, won the best-tasting homemade lemonade a few weeks ago on May 21. Now, the girls say they are excited to donate the money they earn to Paws and Claws Humane Society in Rochester.
“We’re kind of animal people,” Leah Fenton, one of the Lemonade Sisters, said. “Cats and dogs. We want to help them out.”
Over 30 stands were open for customers today. In order to participate in Lemonade Day, each stand signed up at the Rec Center, get their yellow shirts and start selling some lemonade.
