ABC 6 News reporter shares experience at The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

(ABC 6 News) – It’s been one week since Queen Elizabeth II celebrated her Platinum Jubilee. Our own Sydney Zatz was there to experience the historic celebration.

The Queen is the first monarch in history to mark a Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years on the throne. It was an experience that will not be forgotten.

The first day of the Jubilee was an early one with crowds arriving well before dawn to find a place along The Mall, the road leading up to Buckingham Palace for Trooping the Color, The Queen’s official birthday parade. Several hours went by before the royals passed carriage by carriage. The Queen then stepped out onto the iconic palace balcony to watch an Armed Forces flyover, the jets flying in a special formation in her honor.

That night, Beacons were lit across the United Kingdom in honor of The Queen.

Friday was a Service of Thanksgiving. Closed off to the public, there was still a chance to watch the royals arrive at St. Paul’s Cathedral.

Saturday night was the Platinum Party at the Palace. Hundreds of others gathered for a large watch party in one of the parks near the palace, St James’s Park. The best part, Sydney said, was seeing the different drones in the sky lit in honor of The Queen and her favorite things.

To end the Jubilee weekend, the streets of London hosted the Platinum Jubilee Pageant. Split into different parts, Sydney’s personal favorite was all the puppetry, and the buses celebrating the different decades of The Queen’s reign. The end was a performance by Ed Sheeran followed by one last balcony appearance by The Queen and the royal family.

If there was one word to describe the celebration, Sydney said she would pick "magical."
