(ABC 6 News) – The work on a new Law Enforcement Memorial at Soldier’s Field has hit some snags.

The COVID-19 pandemic slowed down some engraving work over the winter, but crews are hoepful the memorial should be complete by next summer.

"We are very dependant on alot of inkind work that’s going to be done for the memorial becasue obviously we dont have the money to pay for everything. But alot of these companies are extremely busy with all the construction that is going on around the city and the county some of those companies are the companies that offered and are willing to help but obviously they have paid for projects that need ot be done as well," said Olmsted County Sheriff Kevin Torgerson.

The Memorial Foundation donated ten thousand dollars to the park board in April and Torgerson says that money will likely be used for a fitness program in the park.

"We have this fantastic track and facilty that is multipurpose now, andI see people out here working out and doing different things. We thought that a fitness circuit would be a really need add to this park and they agreed with us," Torgerson said.

The Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation of Southeast Minnesota was formed to honor the fallen officers of the following Municipal, State, Federal and Military agencies operating within Minnesota Sheriff’s Association’s Sixth District which are the following counties: Rice, Steele, Freeborn, Mower, Dodge, Olmsted, Goodhue, Wabasha, Winona, Fillmore, Waseca, Le Sueur, and Houston.

Torgerson says the project could still use some financial support. If you would like to get involved, click here.
