Chatfield Gophers head to Class AA state championship game

(ABC 6 News) UPDATE- Chatfield Gophers softball defeated Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton 3-1 in state semis Thursday evening.
Gophers will face Proctor in the Class AA State Championship game at Caswell Park in Mankato on Friday at 2 p.m

(ABC 6 News) — In Class AA Softball, Chatfield Gophers (25-2) beat Mounds Park Academy (19-2) 8-5 Thursday morning.
Chatfield opened the game with three runs in the bottom of the 1st inning, padding the lead another in the 3rd. In the 4th, the MPA Panthers got on the board with three runs of their own, but the Gophers struck back with four more runs in the bottom of the 6th inning. The Panthers scored in the top of the 6th and 7th but couldn’t finish the upset, the 8-5 score proving final.
Pitching-wise, it was a battle of the Springers as MPA’s Siri Springer and the Gophers’ Claire Springer dueled in North Mankato.
Claire Springer proved her worth, pitching a complete game with eight strikeouts and hitting two RBIs for the third-seed Gophers. Peyton Berg and Jaiden Zimmerman had four and three hits respectively for Chatfield, the former recording 10 putouts as well.
Meanwhile, the Panthers’ Siri Springer last only six innings striking out four and giving up six unearned runs. Three Panthers had RBIs including Taryn Dornseif who had two runs and Campbell Heger who had three hits.
The Gophers will face Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton H.S.in the state semifinals at 5 p.m.
