(ABC 6 News) — To reach the championship game of any sport is a momentous and admirable accomplishment. The game can mean a little more when it’s two rivals.
When it comes to the Section 1AA championship pitting Rochester Lourdes vs. P.E.M, the plot is something you can pluck from Hollywood and is described in one word: redemption.
The P.E.M Bulldogs have lost twice to the Eagles this season, with the most recent setback in the Section 1AA winner bracket final on June 4.
P.E.M clinched another shot at the Eagles when they beat Pine Island 6-3 in the elimination bracket final. Last season, the Bulldogs beat Lourdes in the section championship after previously beating them in the winner’s bracket. Despite the roles being reversed now with them having to win twice, the Bulldogs feel confident in their ability to repeat as section champs.
"Beating them twice is going to be a mountain but we’re a resilient team with a lot of success not only in baseball but our football team playing in the state finals this year, and our basketball team playing in the section finals this year," Bulldogs head coach Scott Flattum said. "Lot of those kids are on this team. Seeing Lourdes last year they had to do what we’re going to try and do to them last year to us and it didn’t work. Hopefully, the script will be different this year."
The Section 1AA championship game is set to start at 5 p.m. at Mayo Field.
