Where can your kid eat free lunch this summer?
(ABC 6 News) – With school years (and pandemic meal funds) ending, some parents may find themselves scrambling to feed their children three square meals a day. Others may simply struggle to find time or fresh ingredients.

Which is why ABC 6 News reached out to public school systems in our area to round up their summer breakfast and lunch plans. Here’s when and where your kids can get free breakfast and lunch all summer long.
Albert Lea: Albert Lea will operate a summer food program Monday, June 6, through Thursday, June 30.
The program is free to all children 18 and under.
Breakfast is served 8:15-8:45 a.m., with lunch at 10:45 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Mondays-Thursdays, food will be served at the following locations in Albert Lea:
- Halverson Elementary School, 707 E 10th St.
- Lakeview Elementary School, 902 Abbott St.
- Albert Lea High School, 2000 Tiger Lane
- Brookside Education Center, 211 Richway Dr.
On Fridays, food will only be served at the Brookside Education Center.
Austin: Austin will serve free breakfasts and lunches to children ages 1-18, which must be eaten on-site this year, and may not be picked up and taken home.
Breakfast is served 7:30–8:30 a.m., while lunch is served 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
June 6-Aug. 19 (except July 4), meals will be served Mondays-Fridays at the following locations:
- Austin High School, 301 3rd St. NW
- IJ Holton Intermediate School, 1800 4th Ave. SE
- Banfield Elementary School, 301 17th St. SW
Meals will be served Mondays-Thursdays only June 20-Aug. 4, except July 4-8, at Nevelin Elementary School, 1918 E Oakland Ave.
Fillmore Central: Breakfasts and lunches served 8-9 a.m. and 11 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Mondays-Fridays June 6-Aug. 12, except July 4.
Meals must be eaten on-site and cannot be taken home.
Meals served at Fillmore Central Elementary, 702 Chatfield St., Preston
Mason City: Lunches provided to all children at a first-come, first-served basis Mondays through Fridays, May 31-Aug. 19.
No meals served July 4.
Lunches will be served 11:15-11:45 a.m. at Harding Elementary (1239 N Rhode Island Ave, Mason City) and Lincoln Intermediate (313 15th St SE, Mason City).
Lunch and snacks will be provided 11:30 a.m.-noon and 3-3:15 p.m., respectively, at the Iowa YMCA (1840 S Monroe Ave, Mason City).

Rochester: RPS will serve free breakfasts and lunches to ages 1-18, with adult meals available for $2.65 (breakfast) or $4.60 (lunch) at the same times. Adult meals can only be purchased with cash, and change will not be available.
Meals must be eaten at their sites can cannot be consumed elsewhere.
The below sites will serve meals Mondays-Fridays, June 8-Aug. 19. Breakfasts are available 8-8:30 a.m., lunches 11-11:30 a.m. The sites will be closed July 1 and July 4.

- Gage Elementary, 1300 40th St. NW
- Sunset Terrace Elementary, 1707 19th Ave. NW
The below site will serve meals Mondays-Friday June 14-30, and Tuesdays-Thursdays July 1-28. Breakfasts are available 8-8:30 a.m., lunches 11-11:30 a.m. This site will be closed the entire week of July 4.
- Jefferson Elementary, 1201 10th Ave. NE
The below sites will serve meals Tuesdays-Thursdays June 14-July 28. Breakfasts are available 8-8:30 a.m., lunches 11-11:30 a.m. These sites will be closed the entire week of July 4.
- Elton Hills Elementary, 1421 Elton Hills Dr. NW
- Riverside Central Elementary, 506 5th Ave. SE
The below site will serve meals Mondays-Fridays June 13-Aug. 5. Breakfasts are available 9-9:30 a.m., lunches 12-12:30 p.m. This site will be closed the entire week of July 4.
- John Adams Middle School, 1525 31st St. NW
The below site will serve meals Mondays-Fridays June 13-June 30, and Mondays-Thursdays July 1-28. Breakfasts are available 9-9:30 a.m., lunches 12-12:30 p.m. This site will be closed the entire week of July 4.
- Mayo High School, 1420 11th Ave. SE
The below mobile sites will serve lunches Mondays-Thursdays June 14-July 28. Oak Terrace (1618 Marion Rd. SE) serves 11:15-11:45 a.m. Silver Lake Park (1201 E Silver Lake Dr. NE) serves lunch 12-12:40 p.m.
Other: ABC 6 News has confirmed that the following school systems do not have summer meal programs: Chatfield, Dover-Eyota, Lanesboro, Kasson-Mantorville.
