Wear Orange weekend starts to raise awareness for gun violence

(ABC 6 News) – In the wake of multiple mass shootings and tragedies, the fight to end gun violence has never been more urgent.
The national campaign Wear Orange started on Friday, which is National Gun Violence Awareness Day, and runs through Sunday.
People in Rochester and across the U.S. are encouraged to wear orange all weekend to demand a future free from gun violence.
About 110 Americans are killed every day by gun violence.
Rochester Mayor Kim Norton held a virtual proclamation.
"Gun violence prevention is more important than ever as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to exacerbate gun violence after more than two years of increased gun sales, increased calls to suicide and domestic violence hotlines, and an increase in city gun violence in general," Norton said.
The local Rochester chapter of Moms Demand Action, a national gun safety non-profit, gathered in Mayo Memorial Park on Friday night to stand up to gun violence.
The Olmsted County Government Center, Plummer Building and Assisi Heights all lit up in orange in support of ending gun violence.
