GMLOKS Girls and Pine Island Boys win Section 1A TxF Championships

(ABC 6 News) — The Section 1A Championships concluded at Triton High School on Thursday, with multiple local schools aiming to make State both collectively and individually.

Among some of the highlights include GMLOKS’ Anika Reiland winning the girls 200m dash in just under 26 seconds. The winner of the boys 200m was Zumbrota-Mazeppa’s R.J. Sylak, clipping GMLOKS’ James Howard by 0.03 seconds to finish in 22.56 seconds.

Zumbrota-Mazeppa also claimed the girls 4x400m relays, the group of Emma Buck, Siddha Hunt, Katrina and Natasha Sortland finishing in 4:03.47. Pine Island comfortably won the boys 4x400m relay, the Panthers’ Matthew Cain, Mark Quintero, Zack Ihde and Jarod White notching a 3:27.03 finish. It’s another feather in the cap for White, who set the all-time Minnesota state record for the pole vault this week, 16 feet and 2 inches.

After the total scores were finalized, GMLOKS Girls would advance to State on a 137 score, very much ahead of second-place LFCMC (83). Pine Island Boys had a closer finish at 109, three points ahead of GMLOKS Boys, but still enough to qualify for State as well.

The Class A Track and Field Championships will be held at St. Michael-Albertville High School on June 9-10 at 4 PM on both days.
