Mayo Clinic Blood Donor Program is needing O- blood type donations

(ABC 6 News) – The Mayo Clinic Blood Donor Program is facing extreme shortages in O- blood type.

They are putting out an urgent and immediate call to encourage anyone with O- blood type to please donate.

With many open appointment times, high usage, and canceled orders from outside vendors who help sustain the blood supply, the O- type inventory levels are becoming dangerously low.

Why are O blood types so important? O-is the blood type most often used for transfusions when a patient’s blood type is unknown, likely in trauma situations.

Every six minutes, a patient at Mayo Clinic needs a transfusion of blood or blood products. A simple blood donation can save the life of a child with leukemia, restore the strength of a cancer patient or provide a critical transfusion to an accident victim.

Please call 507-284-4475 to schedule your donation.
