(ABC 6 News) – Area business and government leaders gathered Thursday as the Mason City Chamber of Commerce held the State of North Iowa to address what they have in store for the year.
One of the big projects that Mason City is looking forward to is the renovation of Southridge Mall.
The plan is to transform the mall into an entertainment center, which would include a movie theater and new restaurants.
This is an attempt to liven up downtown and give people more things to do.
Mason City Fourth Ward councilperson John Jaszewski says, “It’s a place to go to do stuff rather than necessarily to buy stuff now there will be shops in the area of that mall and in the downtown area of Mason City.”
Another development they’re looking forward to is the construction of the Hyatt Place Hotel.
It will feature a skyway that will connect to music man square and the city hopes construction will begin sometime this year.
Also discussed Thursday were updates on the Destination Iowa projects from the Clear Lake Surf District Revitalization Project and the Bike North Iowa Project.
