(ABC 6 News) — Rochester Public Schools is looking to change the structure of learning in the district with a new strategic plan.
The plan, which lays out 15 objectives, hopes to give kids the opportunity for what they are calling “deeper learning.”
“At the top of it is deeper learning, making sure every kid has that kind of learning experience that hopefully all of us remember where you just got on fire for something and you really learned and it actually changed your whole sense of yourself as a learner,” said Superintendent Dr. Kent Pekel.
Here are the building blocks to the strategic plan:
The first part of the plan, is shifting systems by doing things like revising policies for equity and redesigning bus routes. Next. they want to empower people by improving recruitment and building pathways to careers and higher education.
Then comes the last steps, creating stronger community ties in schools and strengthening support for students and staff.
Finally, by accomplishing these steps, the district says the result is deeper and more effective learning.
