Lawmakers discuss concerns about the new abortion bill

(ABC 6 News) – HF1 made it through the Minnesota House on a 69 to 65 vote.
This grants individuals the right to make autonomous decisions about their own reproductive health.
“Well Minnesota is almost becoming an island for reproductive freedom, it’s really important for people to make their own intimate decisions,” DFL House Representative Tina Liebling said.
Even though the bill was passed in the House, many Republicans fear that this bill is too vague in its description.
House Representative Patricia Mueller called the bill extreme and could open up potential problems.
The Minnesota House passed the HF1 bill which will broaden abortion and reproduction rights in the state. Democrats may see this as a win-but Republicans believe that this bill will create potential problems.
“The last one that is probably the one that is the most concerning to me is the one about consent, we’re removing that guard rail and this opens up the door for people who traffick our children.”
She fears that this bill would hurt a lot of people down the line if it gets passed.
“This type of legislation just shows just how extreme that the position of the majority party is.”
HF1 will now make its way over to the Senate where the real test begins as the Democrats only hold a one-seat advantage.
