(ABC 6 NEWS) – Higher education is always expanding and growing to meet students needs.

And now, the University of Minnesota Rochester is looking toward the future to help their students any way that they can.

The institution was founded in 2009. At that time, there were 50 students.

Today, their goal is to have 1,000 students.

With Rochester growing and evolving, they need to help meet the needs of their students.

"There’s all kinds of good things on the horizon. Enrollment growth is one of them, facilities has to keep up with that, but it is not our focus. At the University of Minnesota Rochester, our focus is always our students, their learning, their development their success. It’s all about that," Chancellor Lori Carrell from the University of Minnesota Rochester said.

Chancellor Carrell wants the university to provide more student housing.

Last month, the board of regents approved the remodeling and repurposing of the Double Tree by Hilton Hotel in Rochester.

"The vision is to inspire transformation in higher education through innovations that empower our graduates to solve the grand heath challenges of the 21st century," Chancellor Carrell said.

The university is also offering something called NXT GEN MED. It’s designed for students to get a headstart on their career.
