Rochester police search for male who uploaded "sickening" video of N Broadway crash victim, left scene

(ABC 6 News) – Late Thursday night, a man lost control of his moped and crashed into a parked car, leaving him in critical condition.

The 37-year-old victim was going northbound on Broadway Ave S in the right lane when he veered off the road. The victim clipped a concrete pole in the parking lof of John Hardy’s BBQ before crashing into a parked car.

According to police, it is still unkown why he went off road.

In a disturbing twist, surveillance video from Broadway Smoke Shop & Vape revealed a man finding the victim laying on the ground and videotaped it. Police say he then uploaded the crash video to social media app, Snapchat, made a racial slur, and then walked away without calling 9-1-1.

"It’s just sickening that people’s priority is a video of a very serious situation and upload that to social media and not even contact anyone to come help the person," said Rochester Police Capt. Casey Moilanen.

Fortunately, one man just getting off of his shift at John Hardy’s did the right thing and called 9-1-1.

"When I came out the door people were yelling and screaming this guy needs help call 9-1-1," said Tim Vandenburg. "I wasn’t going to let the poor guy lay there in blood and not get him any help, he needed help."

The car the victim crashed into, has upwards of $4,000 in damage. But the owner of the car also called for help.

"I saw my car hit but I saw the guy on the ground bleeding really bad," said Abdulghafour Alebbid. "I didnt even care about my car I was looking at the guy most of the time, trying to talk to him see if he’s awake. Obviously I knew I had to call 9-1-1, that was the first thing I did."

RPD says it is unknown as to how much time had passed from the moment the man who uploaded video of the scene found the victim, to when authorities arrived on scene.

This is an ongoing investigation. RPD is still trying to locate the man who failed to render aid and call 9-1-1. If you have any information you are urged to contact the police department.

(ABC 6 News) – A 37-year-old man is in critical condition after striking a concrete pole and parked car on a motor scooter Thursday night.

In a disturbing twist, surveilance video of the scene revealed a male subject finding the victim, uploading a video saying he "just smoked this n*****" to Snapchat, then walking away without contacting emergency services or rendering aid.

Rochester police captain Casey Moilanen called the case "sickening" and said RPD is looking for that person, who may face charges of failing to render aid.

Rochester police responded to a call about a motor scooter crash to the 1900 block of South Broadway at about 9:40 p.m. July 7.

It is not yet known how much sooner the male who uploaded video of the scene found the victim.

The 37-year-old victim was unresponsive on the ground in a smoke shop parking lot and bleeding from the head.

He was taken to St. Marys Hospital and remains in critical condition.

According to surveilance video of the area, the man was northbound on Broadway in the far right lane when, for unknown reasons, he took a right turn off the road and into the John Hardy’s at 1940 S Broadway.

The man partially collided with a concrete pole in the parking lot, then with a parked, empty vehicle in the smoke shop’s parking lot.

Moilanen said a witness in the area alerted them to the presence of the male who uploaded video of the scene.
