(ABC 6 News) – If you live in Stewartville, you probably have seen William Briese waving to people from his home, giving them a reason to smile.

His family is celebrating his 82nd birthday Sunday, and he can still be seen waving.

"I’m glad that I live here, it’s a good community and I enjoy the people when they go by," Briese said.

Everytime a car passes, William smiles. It means the world to him. He’s making a difference in people’s lives here in Stewartville, one wave at a time.

"I’m making a few happy," Briese said.

William’s retired and has lived in town for the past 30 years. And now he makes it his mission every day to bring a smile to someone’s face.

And it’s the kind acts from people he will always remember.

"A couple of girls who work down here at the clinic, they stopped by and gave me a box of cookies because they enjoyed going home and having me wave at them. It made their day they said," Briese said.

And William is seen rocking a shirt that says, "Month of Buck," which is one of his nicknames.

And for his granddaughter, she’s rocking a "Month of Sydney" shirt. Her birthday is in a few days. So being right next to her grandpa, celebrating their birthdays means the world to her.

She also has a front-row seat to her grandpa in action.

"It’s really good to see everyone love it and have it make their day, it makes his day for sure," Sydney Briese said.

Celebrating his special day, and making people smile while doing so.
