65-year-old seriously hurt in crash involving stolen vehicle Thursday night
ROCHESTER, Minn. (ABC 6 News) – A 65-year-old Rochester man was seriously hurt in a crash involving a stolen vehicle Thursday night according to police.
The Rochester Police Department said around 11:30 it received a call for a crash on Highway 63 near the Highway 52 overpass.
When officers arrived they noted a 2020 Black Ford Explorer was flipped on its side but no one was inside or around the SUV.
Officers also located a 2013 Hyundai Elantra. Police said the 65-year-old man driving the car was the only person inside. He suffered serious head injuries but is expected to survive.
A person who saw the crash told officers he was driving on Highway 53 and the Explorer passed him going at speeds of at least 100 miles per hour.
He told officers after the Explorer passed him it hit the man’s car on the backside of the driver’s side.
Police said the Explorer is believed to be stolen but were not able to say when or where it was stolen.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
