(ABC 6 News) – Tuesday, the First Security Foundation in Charles City made a 15-thousand-dollar donation in support of a replica suffrage wagon.
It was 102 years ago Tuesday, that the League of Women Voters was first created.
According to the Smithsonian Institute, the original suffrage wagon was used to distribute reading material on women’s rights.
Now, the donation will help fund a building to secure and protect the replica — and also double as a classroom space to share the plight of the suffragettes in Charles City.
