USS Minneapolis St. Paul planning for commissioning in May in Duluth

(ABC 6 News) – After a complicated repair, USS Minneapolis St. Paul. is being put back together.

Back in February, it was reported the ship had a major problem with its gear mechanism delaying its commissioning.

But according to the U.S. Naval Institute, the repair is complete, and the ship is being put back together and the littoral combat ship can be back on the water soon.

The chair, Brian Skon, shared, "We are still tracking to have a commissioning in May of 2022, in the port of Duluth."

"This is good news… For one thing, the navy needs the warship, we’re short shifts, we need that thing in operation. It’s good to get that LCS USS MPS St. Paul put back together. Now, with that obstacle out of the way move on to commissioning," said Commissioning Committee Chair Brian Skon.

There will be trials for the fix coming up this fall in the Green Bay area, according to Skon.

This is the second ship in the naval service named after the Twin cities.
