Albert Lea Tigers gear up for Class A Girls Hockey State Tournament.

(ABC 6 News) – The Albert Lea Tigers are set to hit the ice Wednesday at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul as they face top seed Warroad in the Class A Girls Hockey State Tournament.

It has been a long season for the Tigers and their success has earned them a spot in the tournament.

“It was a very big accomplishment, especially for Albert Lea since last year was the first time girls hockey in Albert Lea has ever gone to state,” 9th grader Keira Erickson said.

The team arrived in the twin cities on Monday to prepare for the tournament.

“Our team is so young and for us to have this experience at like such a young age just gives us a lot of hope for like the future,” 8th grader Sydney Kolker said.

But that’s not the only thing they have to prepare for.

While the players and coaches are focused on the game-the impending snow storm could throw a wrench in their plans. With up to twenty inches of snow and potentially dangerous travel conditions in the forecast.

“Our plans are to stay up here two nights for sure and then we’ll see how the weather, what the weather does for us,” Head coach Mark Goskeson explained.

Even though the state tournament is scheduled to move forward as planned-mshsl is prepared to adjust if the storm worsens.

“As we move forward, we’re gonna continue to watch that carefully, ultimately our goal is to try to get as much of the tournament in as we can and give the best possible experience.”

The Tigers are scheduled for a 6 p.m. start at the X.
