Robert Charles Baker, 75, had filed a motion asking for a probationary sentence, citing poor health and claiming remorse for sexually abusing the child.

The motion was denied in Olmsted County Court Tuesday, July 2.

Baker received credit for four days previously spent in Olmsted County custody.

Baker was also sentenced to 10 years’ probation following his release, and was ordered to avoid contact with any minor, as well as the victim and victim’s family.

(ABC 6 News) – A Rochester man pleaded guilty to repeatedly raping a six-year-old child Monday, May 20, on the first day of his scheduled criminal sexual conduct trial.

Robert Charles Baker, 74, entered a guilty plea to one count of 1st-degree criminal sexual conduct in exchange for the prosecution’s withdrawal of a motion to seek more than a presumptive 12-year sentence.

Baker’s plea agreement noted that he could still be sentenced to up to 172 months in prison, or just over 14 years, without departing from sentencing guidelines for a 1st-degree criminal sexual conduct conviction.

His Olmsted County sentencing is scheduled for July 2.

(ABC 6 News) – A 73-year-old Rochester man appeared in court Tuesday on a charge of 1st-degree criminal sexual conduct after allegedly repeatedly raping a six-year-old child.

Robert Charles Baker was detained Feb. 17.

Olmsted County Court records show that the state filed a notice to seek aggravated sentencing — more than the presumptive 12-year sentence if proven guilty — on the same day.

According to court documents, Rochester police received a call from a Mayo Clinic physician in August 2022, who reported that a six-year-old patient may have been sexually assaulted.

Rochester police received information from a search warrant that allegedly implicated Baker in January 2023, according to court records.

Baker was released from the Olmsted County jail on $100,000 bail Feb. 21.

His next court appearance is scheduled for March 9, 2023.
