Mayo High School hosts second annual mobile Polar Plunge

(ABC 6 News) – Mayo High School hosted its second annual mobile polar plunge to support individuals with disabilities.

The event is in support of Special Olympics and the Unified Program at Mayo High school. More than 300 students, staff and community members participated in Wednesday’s event.

The school says the program has already raised over 8 thousand dollars and some of that money goes back to the Unified Program at the school.

The Unified School Coordinator says that it means a lot to see that the school is creating a culture of inclusion.

“It means a lot to see that their school is creating a culture of inclusion, where were accepting and loving and going out of our way to intentionally build relationships with students with special needs here at Mayo High school and our hope is that they take this experience and go out in the community go out in their jobs and go out of their way to build relationships,” Coordinator Colin Thomas explained.

Other people that jumped at the polar plunge included Sheriff Kevin Torgerson and School Resource Officer Scott as well as Superintendent Kent Pekel.

Mayo hopes the event grows throughout the other Rochester schools as well
