(ABC 6 News) – The Minnesota Nurses Association hosted a virtual town hall with lawmakers about issues in the health care system like keeping nurses working. Nurses shared stories about the need to pass legislation to keeping nurses at the beside. In fact, that’s the name of the bill. The MDA calls the keeping nurses at the bedside act a comprehensive approach to nurse staffing and retention.
This bill would create committees of nurses and management in minnesota hospitals that will design flexible plans on a hospital by hospital basis to address staffing issues.
“The house file is 1700 and the senate file is 1561. Both of these will help us solve the nursing crisis in our hospitals. Minnesota has no shortage of nurses across the state. Nurses are just unwilling to keeping working in unsafe and unsustainable working conditions that hospital executives have created,” said MDA President Mary Turner.
Along with the help of political leaders this bill was designed by 70 nurses from across the state.
