(ABC 6 News) – The federal vaccine mandate will go into effect later this fall and nursing home facilitators and hospital administrators who are already facing staffing shortages, fear the problem may worsen.

The mandate will affect roughly 17 million health care workers across the country and those who do not want to get vaccinated, risk losing their jobs.

In a time of great demand for healthcare workers, nurses and nursing assistants are the top two in-demand jobs in Minnesota, and if more quit after the mandate goes into effect patients could be turned away because there simply are enough people to care for them.

Mary C. Turner, Minnesota Nurses Association President, went in-depth on the staffing shortages the profession faces and the impact it has on individuals needing care.
