Austin teen arrested after weekend burglary

(ABC 6 News) – An 18-year-old man is facing charges after a weekend burglary in Austin.

Sunday, police were called to the 600 block of 19th St. NW after the homeowner reported that money, ammunition, and a .380 handgun had been stolen from their vehicles in the garage.

Officers and Deputies were able to make an identification based on a neighbor’s surveillance video.

Austin Police along with the Mower County Sheriff’s Office recovered the stolen handgun and ammunition following a search warrant in the 500 block of 18th St. NW. Monday morning.

Elias James Wells, 18 of Austin, was arrested and taken to the Mower County Jail on a probable cause arrest related to the burglary.

The case is being sent to the Mower County Attorney’s Office for formal charges.
