Rapid drought expansion continues

Since the end of May, drought conditions have expanded across Minnesota and Iowa, and areas included in moderate to severe drought in Minnesota have grown by about 45%. This trend is going to continue for at least the next couple weeks unless there is an unexpected, widespread opportunity for rain that shows up.
