(ABC 6 News) – The city of Austin will host the 2022 English Springer Spaniel National Open Championship.
The event will bring people to Austin from all over the U.S. and Canada to compete. It will be held Nov. 17-21, 2022.
There are five events, some on land and others in the water. The Austin City Council approved the use of East Side Lake for the championship during a city council meeting on Monday night.
"Really exciting opportunity for our community because the people who are coming in are going to be staying at our hotels, eating at our restaurants and experiencing the great quality of life in Austin," council member Jason Baskin said. "On a personal level, as the owner of two springer spaniels, I can tell you that we have two very excited little girls to go out and watch the Springer Spaniel Championships. So, it’ll be a great event for us to host to really be able to showcase Austin and southeastern Minnesota."
This event will have a great economic impact on the city of Austin.
