Man steals $4K and leads police on chase
(ABC 6 NEWS) – A Kansas City, Mo. man is behind bars after Albert Lea Police said he took money from Walgreens and led police on a chase on Thursday.
The burglary happened just after 2 p.m. on Thursday at the Walgreens in Albert Lea.
Police were called to the store and employees told police a man stole $4,000.
The man, Devon Smith 45 from Kansas City, Mo. recharged some debit cards and left without paying.
Police said a woman who works at the store tried to get the cards back from the man by getting into his SUV.
She rode with him for a few blocks until he came back to the store and pleaded with her to get out.
An Albert Lea Police Department Detective saw Smith when he was leaving the store the second time and tried to stop him.
Smith led police on a chase until he got to Front St. E and Broadway Ave. S where he was taken into custody.
He is facing charges of fleeing in a motor vehicle and felony theft.
