According to the Rochester Fire Dept., around 2:30 p.m. a call came in reporting that there was a gas leak in the building.
RFD officials say after investigating, a carbon monoxide leak was confirmed, and hotel guests were evacuated to the hotel lobby where it was deemed safe.
The fire dept. worked with the Kahler’s maintenance staff to identify and stop the source of the carbon monoxide.
More than 600 hotel rooms were ventilated and checked using window openings and a positive pressure HVAC system.
All rooms and areas of the hotel are confirmed by the fire department for reoccupation.
In a statement, The Kahler Grand Hotel’s Laura Archbold says emergency personnel responded after a guest reported a burning smell coming from inside the hotel. Carbon Monoxide was detected, and hotel guests were evacuated out of caution. No injuries were reported and there is no threat to the public.
