Old Rockford school building engulfed in flames Friday night
(ABC 6 News) – Charles City Fire Rescue responded to a fire in Rockford, Iowa Friday night, at the city’s old school building.
According to Charles City Fire Rescue, firefighters were called to assist the Rockford Fire Department at the old school building around 10 p.m.
Floyd County Iowa Emergency Management Agency says many area firefighters, sheriff’s deputies, first responders, and EMS personnel responded to the blaze.
All of Floyd County’s fire departments were on-scene, in addition to Floyd County Search and Rescue, AMR ambulance, as well as the Greene Fire Dept. out of Butler County.
Municipal water supplies were used to put the fire out, as well as drafting operations that utilized water from the Shell Rock River.
According to FCIEMA, the school was constructed back in 1900 to replace another school that was built in 1873 that was also lost in a fire in 1899.
The fire caused major damage to a large portion of the building but no one was reported injured.
There is no word on the cause of the fire.
