UPDATE: Suspect arrested in connection to Albert Lea stabbing
(ABC 6 News) – Albert Lea police arrested a person at a domestic assault scene in the 1,000 block of Garfield Avenue this afternoon, according to dispatch.
At about 11 a.m., police posted that the general public should avoid the area because of an “an active isolated incident at a home residence.”
A few minutes later, they updated the post to say that it was a domestic assault, and a man had been taken to the hospital with a stab wound to his lower body.
At 12:30 p.m., law enforcement was still on the scene.
At around 1:30 p.m. officers arrested a suspect, he had no injuries.
Law enforcement specified that the incident does not involve Hawthorne Elementary or Grace Lutheran.
Anna Dietrich with Albert Lea Area Schools’ communication said Hawthorne was in “secure” mode, meaning no one is currently allowed in or out.
Dietrich said “secure” is one step down from “lockdown,” which involves locking classroom doors and turning off overhead lights.
ABC 6 News reached out to Thorncrest Senior Living, which is in the same area, to learn their status.
In a statement the senior living community stated the following.
As always the safety and security of residents and staff is our top priority. Per law enforcement, this is an isolated incident and is not in any way connected to Thorne Crest. However, out of an abundance of caution Thorne Crest has taken steps to secure our building during this situation.
