Call for art at Cascade Lake Park in Rochester

(ABC 6 News) – The Rochester Park and Recreation Department and the Rochester Art Center seek artists to design two art pieces for a Cascade Lake Park in Rochester.

Cascade Lake Park needs a piece for the roundabout located near the Cascade Lakeside building. Commissioners request the art to reflect the park “as a natural amenity within an urban setting.”

Commissioners also request the park’s history as a quarry and water as a community resource influence this piece in some way.

The piece has a budget of $50,000.

The second project would be a park identification sign on 23 Avenue at the entrance of the park.

This piece should also reflect the park’s history and water connection.

The sign must read “Cascade Lake Park” and feature the logos of Rochester Park and Recreation and Legacy Amendment.

The sign must also comply with Rochester Zoning ordinances and unified development code Section 60.400.110 Signs.

The budget for this piece is $20,000.

A committee of working artists, curators, arts professionals and a representative from Rochester Parks and Recreation will judge proposals based on artistic merit, past work, the proposal itself and supporting materials.

Parks and Recreation will select proposals by Feb. 28, 2024. The piece will be installed by Oct. 31, 2024.

Applications close on Feb. 10, 2024 at 11:45 p.m.

Artists are able to submit for one or both pieces.
