President Biden visits Twin Ports
(ABC 6 News) – President Joe Biden visited the Twin Ports area today to highlight federal funds that will help replace the Blatnik Bridge.
Governor Tim Walz and Senators Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith joined the president for the event at a brewery in the city of Superior.
The 60-year-old bridge connects Duluth and Superior.
It will cost nearly $2 billion to replace.
While both Wisconsin and Minnesota commited $400 million to the project, the remaining billion will come from the federal government.
“This investment is going to make a huge difference,” said Biden. “Less traffic, fewer car accidents, faster commutes to your jobs and schools, quicker response times for fire trucks and first responders when every minute counts. Goods will get shipped quicker and commerce will flow more freely.”
Construction on the Blatnik Bridge could begin as early as next year.
