January 50s are uncommon

It should come as no surprise that 50° temperatures in January are uncommon considering it’s in the heart of the winter season.

The forecast on Wednesday has the possibility of a high temperature reaching 50° for much of the local area which would be record-breaking for most communities.

The last time a 50° high in January was recorded in Rochester was on January 5, 2012, when the high temperature reached 55°, making it the second warmest January day on record.

In fact, only eight times on record has a high temperature reached at least 50° in January in Rochester.

The last time there was a 50° high temperature in Rochester, was on Christmas Day when the high climbed to 53° making it the warmest Christmas on record.
