Soil health event in Stewartville

(ABC 6 News) – The Olmsted Soil and Water Conservation District hosted a soil health event.

This is part of their I-90 tour called “What Needs to be Regenerated on Your Farm.”

Officials stopped in Stewartville where attendees had the chance to listen to three speakers share their insights.

Officials showcased innovative practices they use to enhance the productivity and profitability of their crops, livestock and soil.

But each farm’s needs may be different.

“This farm might need to regenerate soil structure, maybe this farm needs to put on calcium, you got something different they need to do is make a step in the right direction so they’re less dependent upon all the chemicals and chemistry and have more resilience for the major weather events that we’re constantly going to be faced with,” said Gary Zimmer, the founder of Midwestern Bio-Ag.

Southeast Minnesota dealt with a heavy drought last year and a so far warm winter.

Farmers say they’ll prepare for going into a different growing season.
