Austin seeks expansion of Creekside Business Park after receiving DEED grant
(ABC 6 News) – This money is expected to create more than 100 new jobs, and could help the city attract more businesses as they develop the site.
The $1.6 million grant will be used to transform Creekside by adding 57 acres to the lot, allowing more businesses to move in while helping one’s already there thrive.
“We have growing business there, new tech, biosciences, this will potentially help them expand in the future,” CEO of Development Corporation of Austin John Garry said.
This new funding will be paired with a federal grant that stretches over two million dollars with the hopes that these investments can make Austin a more attractive location to set up shop.
“I think with our food, ag, bioscience potential, it’s going to make a fast moving project take a second look and make sure that they see us as a great viable option,” Garry said.
27th Avenue Northwest will also be extended. It’s a finishing touch the city has been waiting for.
“With this buildout of 27 Avenue we’re really complete that park, there is another section to the north side of the park that would need to be developed similarly, but at this point the park is ready to go,” city administrator Craig Clark said.
While this is a major improvement that could have huge economic impacts for SPAM town, the city is looking towards the future, hoping this is just one of many more to come.
Clark foresees the city accepting building permits by the summer of 2025 after the road is completed.
