The holiday was established in 2022 by the National Association of School Resource Officers.

While many districts across the state have cut back on SROs, Rochester Public Schools hasn’t, to the appreciation of the city’s police department.
“We’ve received a lot of positive feedback within schools and from our community about having our school resource officers there,” said Lt. Ryan Magnuson. “And, in fact over the last year, we were able to add an additional school resource officer in to focus on the middle schools as well. So, this has been a really great program for us and we’re really dedicated to make sure it’s successful.”

The new holiday is still young but schools and law enforcement are promoting it as a “thank you” for the work SROs do, day in and day out.
