(ABC 6 News) – A service project for one Rochester Eagle Scout ended with a heart-warming friendship after a kind gesture to Mayo Clinic hospice patients.

Lars Ingram got the idea to help out hospice patients for his Eagle Scout project from his father, a Mayo Clinic hospice physician.

“We came up with the idea of some tie blankets cause it was during the winter season, and so it’s kinda cold outside, and what’s better than being warm and comfortable?” said Ingram.

After the blankets were delivered to 100 patients, Ingram received word one of them was also a former Eagle Scout.

“Pleasantly surprised that I got something like this, and I use it every night,” said Mayo Clinic hospice patient Fred Fiberger.

When Fiberger was a scout, he never completed a project like Ingram’s, so he’s glad to see young people today give back to those in need in the community.

“I can see where Dad and Mom can be especially proud of you,” said Fiberger to Ingram.

It makes Ingram feel good to see the impact his project has on Fiberger, and all the hospice patients who received one of his blankets.

“It’s just a very nice warming that shows that there’s still good in the world and people appreciate these things,” said Ingram.
