Large temperature fluctuations this week along with brief return to winter

There will be some large temperature fluctuations this week with a storm system bringing a brief return to winter beginning Tuesday afternoon and lasting through Wednesday.

Monday will be a record breaking day with high temperatures in the mid-to-upper 60s with some communities possibly near 70° especially in north Iowa.

A storm system will push a strong cold front through the area on Tuesday afternoon. The high temperatures for the day will likely occur in the late morning with highs in the 40s and 50s. Temperatures will drop throughout the day. A light shower is possible during the afternoon with a chance to snow by evening. Any snow will end around midnight. Most areas will see around 0.5″ or less.

The bigger story is the gusty winds and temperature drop. Temperatures will plummet into the single digits by Wednesday morning with wind chills likely below zero. Highs on Wednesday will be in the 20s.

The wintry weather moves out with moderating temperatures the rest of the week with highs in the 40s on Thursday, 50s on Friday and 60s over the weekend.
