Tuesday evening snow, then bitterly cold Wednesday
There is finally a dose of winter weather upon us. A strong cold front has already passed through the area, snow will fall Tuesday evening, and a cold wind will continue through Wednesday. Amounts of snow aren’t going to be significant, but around an inch of snow in addition to winds gusting up to 35mph will make for some slick roads and occasionally lower visibility. Snow will come to an end by Midnight Tuesday night and some of the coldest air of this month so far will linger through Wednesday.
Winds remain strong through Wednesday and wind chills will be dropping to the teens below zero Tuesday night through Wednesday morning. Wednesday afternoon highs will be no warmer than around 20°.
As remarkable as this blast of cold air is, the return to mild weather will occur almost as quickly. By Thursday morning, winds will pick up out of the southwest and boost Thursday afternoon high temperatures back into the upper 40s. That trend will continue into the weekend when we’re likely to see more records broken by Sunday afternoon thanks to highs in the 60s. Another shot of rain, possibly with a few snowflakes mixed in, will move into the region early next week.
