Rochester man accused of attempting to screw neighbor’s door shut, stab man with drill bit
(ABC 6 News) – A Rochester man appeared in Olmsted County Court Wednesday, March 6, on burglary and assault charges.
Charles Tewes, 43, is accused of repeatedly attempting to use a power drill to seal another man’s door with screws.
He faces a charge of 1st-degree burglary–assault person on property; a charge of 1st-degree burglary–occupied dwelling; and a charge of 5th-degree assault–fear of bodily harm or death.
According to court documents, on March 5, Rochester police responded to a NW apartment and spoke to the resident who said Tewes had been drilling screws into his door.
Tewes had done the same thing the previous night, but the man was not home at the time, he told police.
The resident told police that he was inside that morning, when he heard the sounds of a drill coming from outside his door.
When he opened the door, he pulled a screw out of its new place and saw Tewes standing there with a drill in hand, according to court documents.
The resident told police Tewes came into the apartment and tried to stab the resident in the neck and chest with the drill, until the man hit Tewes with the door and forced him back into the hallway, according to court documents.
Police claim they located a red and black drill with a drill bit in Tewes’ apartment, as well as a box of screws that matched one found in the alleged victim’s door.
Tewes denied screwing the alleged victim’s door shut, according to court documents.
A third men told police that the alleged victim had called him the night before to help remove screws from the door so he could open it easily.
Tewes’ next court appearance is scheduled for March 19.
