(ABC 6 News) – Students from Austin High school got the chance to get some hands-on experience while learning about agriculture.
The students went to a farm in Glenville where they were able to see livestock and corn and gain a better understanding of food and natural resources.
The focus was to learn about what goes into planting a crop and what opportunities are out there in agriculture.
“For some students, it’s the first time they’ve ever been out to a farm, to walk through a cornfield and know what it is, for others, it’s another day for them,” APS Agriculture teacher Nick Schiltz said.
No matter the experience level – there is always something new to learn.
“So we’ve learned like how to plant crops, so like you plant them two inches in the ground, and there’s a bunch of just farming and agriculture stuff that I wouldn’t have known,” said AHS student Kale Tupy.
Even if agriculture isn’t in the future for the students – the most important takeaway is the real-world experience they gain from this.
