Rochester man sentenced to 3 days in jail, 5 years probation in knife attack
(ABC 6 News) – A Rochester man was sentenced to 3 days in jail and 5 years on supervised probation after pleading guilty to striking a man in the face with a knife.
Stewart Kruger entered an Alford plea — a type of guilty plea wherein the defendant denies committing any crime, but concedes that there is sufficient evidence to convict them in court.
He was also sentenced to 30 days of electronic home monitoring immediately after the jail time is complete.
If Kruger does not complete his probation without incident, he could be re-sentenced to 18 months in jail, according to Minnesota court records.

(ABC 6 News) – A Rochester man entered an Alford guilty plea in a knife assault case Tuesday, Aug. 6.
Stewart Kruger, 44, was accused of striking a 61-year-old man in the face with a knife in May of this year.
Kruger pleaded guilty to an amended charge of 3rd-degree assault in exchange for a maximum jail sentence of 60 days.
An Alford plea is a type of guilty plea wherein the defendant denies committing any crime, but concedes that there is sufficient evidence to convict them in court.
Kruger’s sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 7.

(ABC 6 News) – A man was charged with 2nd-degree assault–dangerous weapon following a knife fight.
According to Rochester police, officers responded to 2135 Highway 14 E at 11 p.m. Thursday.
A 61-year-old man with cuts on his face allegedly told police 43-year-old Stewart Kruger had used a pocketknife against him while the two physically fought.
According to court documents filed Friday, May 24, police made contact with the alleged victim, who was bleeding down his face from “several lacerations on his head.”
Court documents allege that the man had more small cuts on his back.
According to court documents, the alleged victim told police Kruger had taken offense to a text exchange, approached the victim in his car, and hit him in the face with something metallic several times before he could get out of the car.
The alleged victim told police he saw Kruger had a knife in his hand, tackled him, and threw punches to try to “gain control of him.”
“Victim continued to be struck in the back while on the ground,” court documents read.
Court documents allege that a woman came over, got the knife from Kruger, and secured it in her own apartment until police arrived.
Kruger told police the alleged victim grabbed him through the window of his car, he pulled out his knife before the man tackled him and hit him, but he didn’t remember what had happened.
He was taken into custody May 23, and released on $0 bail with conditions or $25,000 bail with no conditions the next day.
Kruger’s next court appearance is scheduled for June 18.
