(ABC 6 News) – Ground was broken on the new Austin Community Action building Wednesday afternoon.
The facility is located between the post office and Oakland avenue east and will serve as a Parenting Resource Center.
It will also be a place for nonprofits to offer services like children’s dentistry. The idea for a new center came after the original resource center ran out of space
"It feels surreal… For the longest time, it was a symbol, it was on paper but you know to feel the dirt under my feet today and to see the community come together for this celebration is amazing," Gema Alvarado-Guerrero, Executive Director, Parenting Resource Center said.
The building is expected to open in August.
