Rochester man in custody after high-speed chase, vehicle fire

(ABC 6 News) – A Rochester man was arrested Monday after leading police on a chase at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour in Blue Earth County.

Just after 2 p.m., deputies responded to a home near Highway 14 and 626th Avenue for a complaint of a suspicious vehicle.

A resident reported seeing a white Chevrolet Tahoe pull into his property and drive behind a shed. A deputy arrived and says the Tahoe fled driving through cornfields. The deputy learned that the Tahoe was reported as stolen from Jordan, MN.

The Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office said the pursuit went east on Highway 14, exited near Janesville, and then went north on Waseca County Road 18/West Elysian Lake Road.

The pursuit ended when the Tahoe became stuck in a slough after driving through fields again in the area of West Elysian Lake Road and 425th Avenue in Waseca County. The driver, Donovan Tomas Egilsson, 24 of Rochester, was taken into custody.

Authorities say the Tahoe started on fire and the flames spread in the field. Multiple law enforcement agencies and several fire departments worked together to contain the flames. No one was injured in this incident.

Egilsson remains in custody on charges related to the incident including fleeing police in a motor vehicle and possession of the stolen property.
