Rochester’s Welcome Week wraps up

(ABC 6 News) – This weekend marks the end of welcome week for the Med City, with many members of the community gathering at Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. Park Saturday afternoon to mark the end of a successful week.
It was the second annual welcome week for the city, dedicated to embracing everyone in the community and elevating voices from different backgrounds.
Complete with multiple vendors, food and dancing, many people showed out for the event.
Rochester Mayor Kim Norton attended and read a proclamation dedicated to the week and to show support for the community.
“it is important you have events like this not only for the external community but for us as well,” said Fatuma Ahmed. “So that when people come to Rochester, they can feel like they’re welcomed. It’s a place that welcomes everyone, its not just because of what color your skin is but it’s a welcoming community that is here to help you thrive.”

Ahmed is the co-founder of Pajoma Women, one of the booths at the event. Pajoma Women provides resources and information to community members of East-African heritage.
