Minneapolis man pleads guilty in 2022 shooting of Rochester man
(ABC 6 News) – A Minneapolis man pleaded guilty to shooting Rochester resident Birahim Bilugeo Gildersleve in Loring Park.
Mayan Deng Mayan pleaded guilty to 2nd-degree murder, and was sentenced Oct. 28 to 414 months (34.5 years) at the MN Correctional Facility in St. Cloud.
He received credit for 585 days already spent in custody.
Minneapolis police responded to the 1600 block of Harmon Place around 5 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, 2022.
Court documents stated that Gildersleve died from a gunshot wound to the chest, as well as a shot to his right leg that severed an artery.
Gildersleve’s family began a GoFundMe for costs associated with the Rochester man’s death.
Mayan was identified as the shooter in February of 2023, and taken into custody in March on 1st- and 2nd-degree murder charges.
His plea agreement states that he will serve a 414-month (34.5-year) sentence, and the count of 1st-degree murder will be dismissed.
Mayan’s sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 28.

(ABC 6 News) – A Rochester man has been identified as the victim of a fatal shooting Sunday morning near Loring Park in Minneapolis.
Birahim Bilugeo Gildersleve, 28, from Rochester, was identified by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office as the victim.
Minneapolis police were called to a reported shooting along the 1600 block of Harmon Place at around 5:20 a.m. Sunday. There, officers found Gildersleve suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital but died a short time later.
Police said early information indicates an argument escalated to gunfire outside an “unlicensed after-hours party.”
No arrests have been announced in the case, which remains under investigation.
