(ABC 6 News) – Brad Finstad has been declared the winner of the Republican nomination for U.S. House District 1 in Minnesota following the vote tally in the Minnesota primary election.

“Thank you. Thank you for the honor of a lifetime to trust me to represent the interests and the needs and the wants of the families of southern Minnesota. I take the job very serious, and I will continue down that path,” said Finstad.

Finstad beat out his two opponents, Shawn Tweten and Gregory Goetzman by a wide margin, receiving over 91% of votes cast at the time of this publication.

Goetzman did not respond to ABC 6 News request for comment, but Tweten says despite the loss, he’ll keep advocating on the local and state level for good politics.

“I’m gonna do my part as far as making America better in the community that I’m a part of, whether it’s here in Minnesota or whether it’s in Washing D.C., cause that’s my ultimate goal, it’s not to get elected, it’s to make America better and to be a better place that when I was born,” said Tweten.

On the Democrat side of the ballot, Rachel Bohman ran unopposed. Bohman says she’s looking forward to facing off with Finstad in the November general election.

“It’s a pretty humbling experience to be on the ballot this year,” said Bohman. “I really am excited, I’m humbled and really care about the people here in Rochester and southern Minnesota.”

If Finstad goes on to win reelection in November, he’ll continue to use his spot in congress to fight for the families of southern Minnesota.

“It’s just those basic family pocketbook issues, you know what are families talking about right now around their kitchen table,” said Finstad. “It’s the price of gas, it’s the price of food, it’s inflation, it’s interest rates, it’s seeing the pocketbook getting stretched really thin right now.”
